Maintenance Requirements

Stainless Steel

Stainless Steel is more resistant to corrosion than most metals but will still corrode if not treated correctly. To combat corrosion in Stainless Steel, clean!, clean!, clean!. The more hostile the environment the more cleaning required. Do not use abrasive cleaning pads, harsh powders or creams. Use a soft cloth with mild detergent or soap. Detergents containing chloride should be avoided. Cleanliness is essential for maximum resistance to corrosion.

Please Note:- Stainless Steel requires oxygen to maintain its durability; therefore painting Stainless Steel on site can inhibit the metal's ability to maintain or repair itself which can leave it vulnerable to corrosion. If you need to paint it, we would suggest Powder Coating.

Colorsteel Maxx

Colorsteel Maxx wall flashings that are exposed to the elements and rain washed should also be manually washed every six months and areas that are exposed to the elements but not rain washed should be manually washed every three months using clean water and a soft cloth. The more severe the environment the more often it should be manually cleaned.

Galvanised Steel

Galvanised Steel wall flashings that are exposed to the elements and rain washed should also be manually washed every three months using a mild neutral diluted detergent with a soft brush or cloth. Rinse with clean water and dry with a soft cloth. We would also advise that Galvanised Steel exposed to the elements be appropriately painted. Galvanised Steel is not appropriate for hostile environments e.g:- harsh industrial, marine or geothermal areas.

Aluminium

Mill finished Aluminium requires regular cleaning to maintain its appearance. Rain washing will help but it should also be manually washed every six months minimum. Where the Aluminium is in a sheltered position and not washed by the rain, then it will need to be manually washed more often. Also the more hostile the environment the more regularly it should be cleaned. Once every months in mild rural areas to once a month in severely polluted industrial, geothermal or marine environments. Clean using a soft cloth and a mild diluted detergent, then rinse with clean water.

PowderCoated Flashings

Rain washing will help keep your Powder Coated flashings clean but rain alone is not sufficient. They should be manually washed at one to six month intervals. The more hostile the environment e.g:- harsh industrial, marine or geothermal areas, the more regularly they will need to be manually cleaned. Where the Powder Coated Aluminium is in a sheltered position and not washed by the rain, then it will need to be manually washed more often. After sponging off any surface deposits, clean using a mild neutral diluted detergent with a soft brush or cloth. Rinse with clean water and dry with a soft cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaning pads, harsh powders, creams or solvents.
